Why Mobile Device Management is Required For Maintaining Cyber Security, Efficiency, and More

The move to remote work that many of us made in 2020 opened us up to more cyber threats. According to a survey by Censuswide on behalf of Centrify, 46% of businesses noted an increase in phishing since implementing remote work. Cyber security should therefore be on everyone’s minds, and for many businesses it is.

The same study concluded that 73% of businesses have invested in additional training on remaining cyber-safe when working remotely. Mobile device management serves both as the ultimate compliment to cyber security training and a boost to other aspects of a business, so read on to learn more about why mobile device management is required.

Probably the main reason why mobile device management is required is how it gives you much more control over the security of your remote team’s devices. Security protocols can be established more quickly and easily, you can control access to sensitive data remotely, and software patches can be kept up to date with ease. You can even remotely wipe a device should it become lost or stolen. No matter how many, or how varied your work’s devices are, you can hold them to strict security policies wherever they are.

Meeting compliance requirements is easier

With multiple devices in a network, it can be hard for businesses to make sure compliance regulations are adhered to. Mobile device management is one of many tools that let an IT team stay on top of all devices’ compliance requirements from one unified hub, and thereby ensure better, more reliable adherence to the law.

Managing devices is more efficient

Along with making managing devices’ security easier and more reliable, a mobile device management solution can streamline overall device management. System updates, monitoring, configuring settings, and other common IT tasks can all be performed and automated within one, single, comprehensive platform. Much quicker than IT staff manually managing each device individually.

BYOD security is made safer

It’s understandable for employees to want to use their own devices. It’s often in the business’s interest as it’s cheaper than an employee using company resources. Plus, sometimes there’s no other option when a business is short on devices; a reality for many businesses at the start of the pandemic. However, too many business technologies will reject employee devices if they don’t recognise them. And employees can be careless on the security front. According to a recent OneLogin survey, 3% of employees have downloaded a personal application without approval from management or IT. Thankfully, mobile device management can keep an eye on employee-owned devices and give them the security thumbs up required so that you don’t have to choose between network security and employee freedom.

According to a recent Twingate survey, 59% of employees felt more cyber secure in-office than at home. And that’s because they are; typically, home environments have fewer security measures. Mobile device management allows remote employees to securely access the data they need to without a greater risk of a security breach.

Mobile device management is of course just one piece of the cyber security puzzle. To provide the safety that your business needs, it should be combined with services including staff cyber security training and email security solutions.
