Our first away trip included competition, a dance off and many, many squirrels

Last weekend the Support Tree team enjoyed a weekend away in the beautiful Elveden Forest.

Although we were faced with a troublesome start – with what seemed to be the entire population of London leaving the city (and thus causing road rage from particular members of the team…) – we finally made it to the serene destination of our first ever team building away trip. Center Parcs.

We missed our colleague Kasim who unfortunately was unable to attend but set out to enjoy the weekend full of team building exercises and of course, plenty of beer. Both of which brought out competitive sides.

Spanish Gold was the name of our team building activity. We split up into two teams and competed to win the metaphorical Spanish Gold. Of course, the team I was in won (obviously). Both sides endeavored, however there can only be one winning team. Which was mine. Got it? All jokes aside it was great to have some healthy competition and a boost in team spirit.

And what would a trip to Center Parcs be without a visit to the arcade. In fact, this may have been one of the most entertaining parts of the trip where we all released our inner child. My personal favourite was the Dancing Stage Fusion where some of us battled it out to become the Support Tree Dancing Queen.

Another highlight of the trip was the sheer amount of squirrels we managed to feed. With us all based in two separate cabins, there was ample opportunity to see all sorts of wildlife. In a twist that nobody expected, we discovered that one of our own engineers is in fact terrified of squirrels. We truly got to know each other.

On a serious note, the trip was an opportunity for us to reflect on our achievements of the year so far and to bond outside of our professional work setting. And considering this was the first trip of its kind in the 15 years of Support Tree’s existence, we all sincerely agree that it was a massive success.
